Questionable Media Coverage of Tiger

Phil Mickelson won the 2010 Masters event in Augusta, GA and I say congratulations, you have to give credit where it is due. Tiger Woods finished in fourth place after a strong start and although he didn't win he did receive a nice pay day (about $360,000). Phil Mickelson's wife and mother are battling cancer and so for him to win under all that pressure is amazing. Tiger Woods has been the talk of the tabloids since November when his infidelities became public for the first time, yet he managed to finish fourth which is outstanding....God how I wish it would end there.

I knew this was going to be bad when the scandal broke because Tiger is a polarizing figure in the sports world. He is a minority in a predominately white sport. He has his supporters where he can do no wrong in their eyes, and he has his haters who can't wait to tear down his every misstep. The homepage on PGA.com as of this post says Saint and Sinner with pictures of Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods...and the PGA calls Tiger a hypocrite.

Robert Lusetich, a golf analyst said, "Tiger's back but his swing looks like it's still in rehab." I would like to ask Robert how a swing, that landed Tiger Woods fourth place in the Masters after a five month layoff, can look like it needs any improvement or as he says "Looks like it's still in rehab"?

Now reports are coming out that Tiger got with one of his young neighbors. Raychel Coudriet who is 22 now says she met Tiger when she was 14...relax, this alleged affair took place last year. This story has been reported by the National Enquirer and now its everywhere. The key word is alleged but I guess no one gives you the benefit of the doubt after so many mistresses are gunning for you.

Someone who is defending Tiger is long time friend Charles Barkley. I love Charles because he truly speaks his mind no matter good or bad in this case the latter. Charles said, "You got this punk ass Billy Payne who goes on TV ... for him to get on there and act like he's all Uncle Tom, he's the master on the plantation, that piss me off."

Barkley added, "I wish somebody would just walk up to him and punch him in his face." Masters Chairman Billy Payne started all of this last week when he said, "Our hero did not live up to the expectations of the role model we saw for our children."

First of all Billy Payne is a moron, you are the chairman of the Masters, your job is to comment on how a player is doing on the golf course not off of it. Roger Goodell the commissioner of the NFL isn't throwing Ben Roethlisberger under the bus and believe me Ben has given him several chances in the past.

Barkley is also wrong in the sense that he played the race card. While certainly the media are all over Tiger, they haven't crossed the line...yet. At least not the main stream media. I look at some of the other blogs floating around and it is a sad world we live in as these people call Tiger every name in the book...the question I want answered is how hypocritical is the media being? The next time a prominent figures screws up I'll be watching the coverage.
